Planning the perfect event isn’t easy. Whether it’s a Christmas party or a retirement celebration, a birthday or a wedding, there are certain truisms that every event planner should remember. These common do’s and don’ts of event planning are brought to you by The Crave Company, as well as The Party Match and Active Data.

Do’s And Dont’s Of Event Planning

#1: DO Create a Budget

Every event has a budget, and that budget will determine a large part of what can and can’t be done. Everything, from food to the rental space, has to be paid for in some way. While there will be changes throughout the planning stage, what you can pay for is one of the biggest determining factors for events.

#2: DON’T Get Too Caught Up In The Image In Your Head

While it’s important to have a vision for what you want your event to look like, it’s also important to be flexible in that vision. You need to be able to roll with the punches, and to make changes as they become necessary. It may be impossible to get certain flowers for display because they’re out of season, for example, which would mean using different blooms, or silk flowers instead. That’s just one example of an obstacle that may need to be overcome.

#3: DO Plan Ahead

There’s no such thing as too much forethought when it comes to event planning. As soon as you know you have an event to plan, start gathering your resources together. It’s better to have most of the details worked out a month or two before, and have to adjust an existing plan, than to try throwing something together the weekend before and hoping for the best.

#4: DON’T Cut Corners

While saving money is something you should strive for, it’s important to remember that you get what you pay for when it comes to your events. Quality is important, and if you skimp on it you have to ask what else you’re giving up.
